Default 2001 gas Club Car golf cart

2001 gas Club Car golf cart. Replaced all four micro switches, ignition switch, starter relay, fuse box, starter and wiring. The issue I am having is it seems as if the micro switch for the accelerator is working backwards. The top, two prong switch in the box where the starter relay is. When I press the gas, stops running because I am losing my ground. If I hold the switch it runs fine when I press the pedal but if I do not hold it, it stops. Seems like switch is operating backwards. All wiring has been tripled checked and still same problem.
When I turn the key, both small terminals on starter relay are positive. When I hold the micro switch down, it grounds one side and engages the starter. As soon as I release the switch, it shuts off. If I hold the switch it continues to run even when not pressing the accelerator pedal. If I run a jumper ground from starter relay bracket to frame, it keeps engaging the starter.
I got this cart after someone replaced the engine after it was flooded during Hurricane Harvey. Trying to help out an elderly couple as its theirs but I am stumped.

It sounds like the two switches in that control box may be reversed. The lower switch is a normally open switch. When you release the gas pedal the plastic bell crank should press the arm of the switch in to connect the ignition to ground - grounding out the spark to keep the engine from running. The upper switch is normally closed )opposite of the bottom switch. When you press the pedal that bell crank moves away from the switch arms and allows that switch to connect the solenoid control circuit to ground - making the solenoid send power to the starter/generator.

Thanks for your reply. I understand your theory but when the pedal is pushed, both switches are released at the same time. All wiring has been traced and flows as the wiring diagrams indicate.

Yes they are pushed and released together, but that motion opens contacts in one switch and closes contacts in the other. The two switches are different- one normally open and one normally closed. Wrong switch / wrong position and it won't work.

one of the switches in its idle (normal) state is CLOSED = Current flow (light Switch ON)
the other switch in its idle (normal) state is OPEN = No current flow (light switch OFF)
then when you press the pedal and actuate them they switch CLOSED is NOW OPEN, and OPEN is NOW CLOSED. check the manual and the wiring diagram to see complete layout ;)

They LOOK the same BUT inside they are different i just bought a set of 3 each, 3 Normally Open, and 3 Normally Closed. you CAN NOT SWAP Or INTERCHANGE Them they work completely backward of each other.

That is exactly what I thought but was unable to come up with only one part number for the switches. If the switch worked reverse of what I have, my problem is cured. Does anyone have a part number for both switches?

Thanks Jimmie. I got the right switch and it works. Someone had put on a two prong switch which is for the bottom. The top switch is now a 3 prong with nothing on the center prong and it works like a charm. A $4 switch gave me fits for days. Too bad the wiring diagram is not clearer. Thanks so much.
