questions about an older gas club car
I have a friend of a friend (already sounds like trouble doesn't it haha) that has an early 90's gas club car he wants to sell. He said he doesn't know exactly what year he actually said late 80's to early 90's. He is asking $1000 for it. he said it runs good but it has a "Ticking" sound in the engine. He does not know why but he said Club Cars are famous for it. he also said it may last a couple of years and a new motor cost $300. Does any of this sound right? Anyone ever heard a ticking sound? Motor 300? or should i keep looking
Thanks |

Re: questions about an older gas club car
$300 = parts for a quick rebuild labor extra
Ticking sound could be a loose valve tappet....needs adjustment. Have him give you the serial # FG90948374 = the first 2 digits after the leters is the year of manufacture. In this example it is a 1990 ... make sure the engine is good. Do a compression check. That engine has run nearly 20 yrs. ..... |

Re: questions about an older gas club car
"Ticking sound in motor--Club Cars are famous for it". this is one of those sounds that gets louder and louder the closer it gets to your wallet!! "A NEW motor for $300." Try double that for a minimal overhaul!! I will bet it was also owned by a little old lady who only drove it too and from church??Take Scotty's advice, check the year and check the compression. If the engine now needs an overhaul I think you can make a better buy than this one.
