Only slow speed

98 DS wasn't getting a spark..installed new plug..started right up, BUT if I give it more than 1/3 throttle it cuts out and dies...let up and starts running again. Rev limiter is disconnected and has been for several yrs...doesn't get near high RPM now at this time...governor tied back to a max of 4000 RPM when running properly... Have tach wired in. By the way what is the correct spark plug gap? Anyway what would cause it to cut out like that?

Gap is 29-31

Sounds like a carb issue pull it off and give it a good cleaning pull all the Jets out make sure they are clear and use forced air to blow through all the passages

Mixture going lean. More than likely carb or air filter not properly installed.
