Default Looking to buy a gas golf cart - what to buy?

Im looking to buy a newer gas golf cart. I am looking for opinions. Club car, Yahama or EZ-go. I am going to put a back seat on it and lift it. I live in the hills so I need it to go uphill good. I had an older Yamaha once and really liked it and I had a Club Car DS and liked it. Ive been looking around and there are more club car precendents in my neck of the woods. Please give me your thoughts.

You're going to get pretty biased opinions depending what thread you ask this question on but what it really comes down to is set your price range and look at every brand and choose the cleanest well taken care of cart you can find

For newer carts, I've owned a 2010 RXV and currently own a 2012 precedent. The rxv is roomier. I could fit my wife, 8yo daughter and I on the seat. Little more leg room too. The 13.5 hp engine in the rxv has noticeably more power up hills, though the precedents 11.5hp has plenty of power for hills. The precedent is a MUCH smoother ride than the rxv. the turning radius of the precedent is a lot better than the rxv too. While I haven't lifted my precedent yet, the rxv was cheap and easy to lift with a 6" spindle kit. Another thing I've noticed between the 2 is the clutching on the precedent is much smoother. maybe my rxv was a bad example, but it engaged and launched hard. Ive also found working on the rxv to be easier than on the precedent.

if I were to choose again, id take the smoother ride of the precedent over the hp of the rxv every time.

I have owned all of the big 3 and still own ezs and Yamahas. In my opinion the Yamaha wins the ride quality hands down. I own a gas G9 and a sparky G29. G9 has had the clutch mod on the driven and it will pretty much climb anything I point it at with the stock motor. G29 is just a neighborhood cruiser with the Alltrax xct300. Both are great carts. My other 4 are ezs and hold their own.

I thought the new club cars had 13 hp. I dont know much about the Subaru engine, is it reliable? I liked the old DS with the kawasaki.

Do you want to keep it stock or plan to modify it? If you want to keep it stock, fuel injection is probably a worthwhile feature. If you plan to modify, it probably doesn’t really matter what you start with as long as it’s a good deal. Looking back at my cart and everything I’ve done to it, I should have started with a roller and brand really wouldn’t have made a difference at that point.

Ride quality does vary slightly among the 3 main brands so it may be a good idea to drive all of them to see which you prefer. However, all 3 build great carts so you really can go wrong with any of them. All comes down to personal preference at the end of the day. For example, one of the main reasons I went with a Club Car is because I liked the dash the best.

I find that my EZGO TXT is relatively easy to work on and modify. Pretty straight forward.

I plan to lift it and put a rear seat on it and that's about it.

Are you using it on a golf course, or a campground or streets?
