91 Gas CarryAll II
Have a gas 91 club car carryall 2. Was running great till someone was driving it and the oil plug came out. They continued driving it till it was empty of oil because they didn’t notice. Not seized, but very little compression. I tore it apart and put in new gaskets (including head gasket), new valves with the right clearance, new rings (aligned correctly), and new piston. I have spark, but very little compression. Any ideas?
Thanks |

Re: 91 Gas CarryAll II
Sorry, needs to be bored and new oversized piston/rings. Probably the only way to bring that motor back to life.

Re: 91 Gas CarryAll II
unfortunately, oil deprivation does bad things to a motor. Is that the kawasaki motor in it? I'm not super familiar with club car, but i just picked up a carryall myself i've been working on.
was there any scoring present in the cylinder walls when you took it apart? if there's any scoring then it needs to be bored out. if you can feel it with your fingernail, it's too deep to hone. if there's no scoring then run a hone through the cylinder. you've got new rings already and they haven't been run so they should be okay. if you didn't hone the cylinder then the rings will never seat right and you will have very weak compression as a result, scoring or not. you have to scratch up the cylinder walls and give the new rings something fresh to seat or wear into. |

Didn’t notice any scoring which is why I thought it’s be ok to rebuild as is. So can I hone now after I’ve tried to start it a few times, or do I need to buy another set of rings?

Re: 91 Gas CarryAll II
You haven't actually run it with those rings yet so they haven'r seated. Should be okay to run a home through it and give it a shot. Not gonna hurt anything at this point. :) maybe get lucky and that's all it takes. Also a chance the cylinder isnt round but honing it isnt gonna hurt anything at all

Re: 91 Gas CarryAll II
Got the cylinder honed. Compression is up, but I don’t think at levels enough to run. Fires a little bit. Wondering if I did the valves right. Should I be able to turn them when they are closed?
