Performance (Speed) question
for some reason i feel my cart is too fast. (not complaining) its a stock 290cc motor with no work done to anything on the cart. im on like 25-27inch tires (due to narrower rim, it makes tire taller). I clocked it at 29mph with 2 people in it.
i dont know, but for some reason when i clock this things top speed next to my 4-wheeler (which has digital speedo) it says 29mph, and if i drive next to a car it says the same. I know my drive belt is rotted to hell, like really bad. Im going to be changing the belt just as a preventative caution. My cart does have rough take offs and etc. If i change the belt, will it make the cart faster or slower? i know it will have smoother acceleration but would it make a big difference in top speed? |

Re: Performance (Speed) question
IMO Anthony...
Your govenor has been adjusted... or, you have high speed gears! 29 MPH with a stock 290 on 25's is waaay too fast for stock! Yes... You should replace your belt if it's that worn... and yes... you may pick up more speed! I'd suggest putting a tach on it, and run it WOT... if it's above 3900 RPM's the govenor has been adjusted! or, you can just look to see if your RPM limiter has been disabled! Let us know what you find out! |

Re: Performance (Speed) question
well sometimes when i am rolling down a hill at full throttle, the governor kicks in and the cart looses power until i re-gain that normal speed. I got the cart off of an old guy who was the origional owner (which i doubt touched the governor) .

don't do that often... it'll damage your engine! Just be careful at those speeds, but... have fun at the same time! |

Re: Performance (Speed) question
sorry i meant it was my rev limiter. Of course i want to find out if i'll be damaging my engine, and IMO... i think the cart is a little too fast.

Re: Performance (Speed) question
I just checked the speed calculator... (quick links, top right of the page)
3900 RPM's (when the limiter kicks in) 11 (11:1 gear ratio for a stock cart... at least for mine) 27" tires 28.5 mph! You can adjust your throttle cable(s) at the black box inside your engine compartment, Or, shorten the (adjustable) throttle linkage from the pedal to the the black box to bring the rpm's down a little, and slow you up a bit, and to keep it from hitting the limiter! |
