2008 Precedent with fe350 delay start
First of all, I decided to join this forum after searching for an issue causing recent smoking on my cart. Replaced my carb and changed oil and all is good. Found similar issues here and was able to save hundreds of dollars fixing myself. Thank you!
After golfing a few holes my cart tends to delay several seconds before going. Have checked the solenoid and battery while cold. All good. Starter belt seems to be in good shape and tight. Drive belt does seem cracked and needing replaced but works fine after clutch engages. Have not checked the brushes in the starter. But the fact it seems to work ok in the beginning tells me those might be ok? Seems I read somewhere the proximity of the muffler to the starter might cause issues? When this is happening, I get nothing, no slipping belt, etc. Just sits there 4-5 seconds and then takes off. What could this be and secondly, am I pouring gas into the carb while it is delaying and am I going to have another issue with that? Thanks |

I know you said the battery is ok but humor me and put it on a low charge rate overnight and see how it works. You're probably starting on the compression stroke when it does what you're describing. If it still does this after a good charge your s/g belt may be just a little too tight. and I'm talking about just a little.

Also check the brushes. it just takes a few seconds if your S/G is on top of the engine like it is in my carryall. Just pop off the rubber cover and look at the one right there at the top. IF it is near or below the holder then they're worn and need to be replaced, it's about $30. if not then need to look at other things. For the 30 seconds it takes to pop the rubber cover off and look at the brush i would start there. you can also blow compressed air into that hole, watch a huge puff of black stuff come out and that can help get you by for a bit until you can get the brushes replaced.

Re: 2008 Precedent with fe350 delay start
thanks for the replies. I did do a trickle charge overnight and no help. my belt is tight but gives a half inch or so. guess I haven't looked at the brushes too close. just seemed it would be hard to get to. maybe not. will look at that

Re: 2008 Precedent with fe350 delay start
I went through this for about a year on my 2006 Precedent. Checked everything twice with no results.
Checked the brushes and they looked fine. WRONG!!! Replaced them and all is well. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
