Automotive tachometer on Golf cart
Hello
I’m going to attempt to put a 4cyl tachometer on my 2001 DS. From what I have read the 4cyl will have 2 pulses/rotation where the golf cart will have 1 pulse /rotation. Hopefully this will work out and when the tach shows 8000rpm the engine will only be running at 4000rpm. I also plan to wrap a wire around the plug wire to pickup the signal. If this does not work I have a powered pickup from a timing light that may to the trick. Let me know what you think. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Re: Automotive tachometer on Golf cart
I don't know if it will function or not, but I think you have the tach reading backward. If everything you state about pulses is correct, the tach will read 1/2 of the engine RPM, not double.
Engine at 4000 = tach at 2000 |

Re: Automotive tachometer on Golf cart
Probably won't work without an adapter for magneto ignition.
Automotive tachs hook to the coil negative and count the negative pulse as the ground opens/closes. Magneto coil on the golf cart doesn't do that. |
