Default Cart doesn’t have much power with passengers or up hills

So after all the work I did to my cart, I wanted to increase my speed. I was getting about 12mph with it. I have the limiter still on it, so as not to damage the engine if I do something that is over the top. So I zip tied the spring on the accelerator cable, see attached picture. Its zipped all the way tight. I now get a top speed of 20-21 MPH on it. Going downhill I get 21mph and the limiter kicks in at 21. That’s perfectly ok with me, as I don’t want any speed over 20mph. On flat ground it seems to take longer than before to get up to speed.

My cart runs smoothly, is quieter than before I did all the work, and no longer gets too hot.

The starter/generator belt is tight. The drive belt seems to be going up nice and high on the drive clutch.

Could the starter/generator belt be too tight? It has only a little play in it. Maybe 1/4” - 1/2”. Both belts are pretty new. Brand new drive clutch.

Any suggestions? I can cut off the zip tie and test also, but I have to remove the rear seat and stuff to do that and want to avoid that unless I have to take it off.

You shouldn't have to take the seat off to access that zip tie on the spring. Just did an '05 and all I did was jack it up by the bumper in order to let the axle hang free down on the leafs. It gave me enough room to get up there to access those governor springs.

If it were my cart, I probably wouldn't have ratcheted that zip tie all the way down. You may be overextended on your power band, which robs your cart of low end power, redistributing it up at top speed. Maybe try it again and just tighten in small increments until you get the top speed you're comfortable with, and the low end power you need.

Thank you!! I’ll give it a shot.
