Unhappy Clockwise, they said it was clockwise.

Please bare with me, I am new. I have a 2002 Club Car 2100. I got it with a blown engine. The Club Car uses a clockwise rotating FJ400 engine. I also have a John Deere Gator that has a FJ400 that turns counter clockwise.

I ordered and got a new engine. They swore it rotated clockwise looking at PTO side of crankshaft. It is a CCW rotating engine. The bastards! So it is a good spare engine for my Gator but worthless for my Club Car.

Does anybody here know if it is possible to change rotation of these engines? Cam timing? They both are made by Kawasaki, look the same, some internal parts make them a CW or CCW rotating engine. What needs to be changed? I thought about setting the cam 180 degrees off and giving it a spin. A different cam?

The cam and also the crankshaft gear would be different

I would also try to find parts list for each and compare the part #s

I would guess the ignition system could vary also

I will tend to ignition once engine operates correctly spinning in CW rotation. As it is now when spun in CW direction, put your finger over spark plug hole it trys to suck it in, not push it off. It seems to be blowing out of the carb, not pulling fuel in. That is why I thought cam timing or different cam might fix the delima.

I was hoping someone here is experienced and knowledgeable about such. It never hurts to ask before I do something stupid. I guess the worst I could do is get it running CW. And after a few moments of joy have it blow up because oil pump won't work running backwards. Or something else I might not be thinking about.

You will not get a CCW engine to run CW easily or inexpensively.

Where did you order the engine from? They told you you were getting a clockwise rotating engine? They sold you the wrong engine. Send it back.

Main difference is the cam. But the connecting rod is also flipped and the piston orientation may be different.

The flywheel determines the ignition. Nothing internally.

Thanks for the info. I got it from a cart shop that was going out of business and now a empty building. It was still in shipping box. Paid $600. So if I have to buy a cam and few other parts it is still an inexpensive brand new engine. The previous owner of cart ran it til the crankcase got a big hole in it. Looks like the counter weight exited the room. So it did not come with a rebuildable or core value engine.

I gather that I have to get CW camshaft and flip connecting rod.

I got new cam ordered and will filp con rod while in there. Thanks again!

Well that's kinda cruddy, but if nothing else you got a brand new engine for the gator at a ridiculously cheap price.
If the cam from the other engine is in good shape you could maybe just swap that to the new one. The link rods on the 350s and 400s get starved for oil and they eventually jam and break and trash the cam gear but might be worth pulling the front cover off to take a look if you haven't already.

Not sure how that engines ignition is setup but I would think it signals at say 10 degrees before tdc and that would change going counter clock wise other wise its probably going to try it at 10 degrees after tdc
