Default Gas Clubcar won't crank oveer

My cart is a 1977 DS CarryAll II.

The engine compartment was dirty so i decided to clean it. I first cleaned out the loose debris with an air hose and then I hosed it out with water. Then I removed most of the water with the air hose. I did not disconnect the battery nor did I turn off the ignition switch.

When I attempted to restart the starter did not turn.

Before I start tearing into things to diagnose the problem does anyone have any ideas of where to start?

Is it a key start or pedal start?

How long ago did you clean it? Maybe just give it a few hours to dry out real good. It may take a bit if it's cold there.

First thing I would do is check the fuses and make sure they're good. Though they probably are.

You could try turning the primary clutch by hand. If you have pedal start, and worn starter/generator brushes it may have gotten some water down into the S/G past the rubber covers and gunked up some of the dush in there. Spinning it by hand a bit can help to free that up.

It is pedal start.
I cleaned it yesterday afternoon. It has been in a heated (50*) garage overnight until mid morning today.
The only fuse I checked was the one in the starter box. it looked OK
I will try turning the primary clutch to rotate the S/G. Will let you know.

Thanks for the response.

Would be worth pulling one of the rubber covers off of the S/G and see how worn the brushes are. Fortunately with the Carryall the S/G is super easy to get to because of the dump bed, making brush replacement much easier than most carts are.

OK,I did rotate the S/G and this did not cure my issue.

I did, however, find that jumping and activating the solenoid would cause the S/G to turn. So it appears that I have an electrical problem. I will have to checkout the limit switches and wiring to learn why the solenoid is not working.

I will post what I find.

Thanks for the responses and suggestions.

Well, here is what I found. It was my error.

Yesterday when I tried to start it in my garage I rotated the knob so that I could start the cart in neutral. Today when armed with my service manual I fond that I had not rotated the run-in-neutral knob correctly and when I did it correctly the cart cranked and started.

Thanks again to you guys who took time to help, you are very much appreciated.
