How do I test oil pressure on 1993 Club Car DS FE-290?
I would like to test my oil pressure on my FE-290 engine. My oil warning light is good but never comes on. Is there a way to test? All I have is a single yellow wire going down to the oil sensor plug to the back of the engine block.

The warning light is for the oil level sensor. Not pressure.
There should be a plug on the oil filter housing where you can attach a gauge to check pressure. |

Re: How do I test oil pressure on 1993 Club Car DS FE-290?
Good Morning,
While we're on the subject, what should the oil pressure be in a stock 290/350? I've looked at the service manual and while it describes the pressurized system, it never specifies what a correct pressure should be. I have an automotive pressure gauge (Equus 5244) that I'm thinking about putting in the dash to monitor and wondering if it would even register. The graduation begins at 10psi. Also, be aware that if your cart is lifted, the engine will be sitting at an angle and the throw the oil level warning light off a bit. I have an 02 CC limo with a 6" lift and the oil light flashes constantly even though the amount of oil in the engine is correct. Which leads me to another question... should lifted carts run a different amount of oil to assure the pickup is always submerged? Thanks |

Re: How do I test oil pressure on 1993 Club Car DS FE-290?
looking in the kawasaki Service manual: (one of the Pros on here can validate)
The oil pump is provided with a relief valve at its outlet side. When the oil pressure is higher than the preset pressure of the relief valve, the relief valve opens to discharge the oil into the crankcase. When the oil pressure is lower than the preset pressure, the relief valve closes. If the oil pressure becomes excessively high, it could break the seal in the oil passage, critically damaging the engine. Oil Pump Inspection The oil pressure specification is 31.4 kpa (3.2 kg/cm2, 0.46 psi) minimum at the maximum no-load speed. If the oil pressure is low, inspect the oil pump and the relief valve. |

wow, 0.46psi. If that is correct, I'd hardly call that oil "pressure". I'd think greater pressure could be achieved by pouring oil into a funnel
Don't think they make a gauge that precise to measure that though. |

Ummm... I'm not sure of the "no-load" speed, or the "fast idle" speed (RPM's)
but my CC engine repair manual says something a little bit different. (Maybe a decimal point typo?) img128.jpg |

Re: How do I test oil pressure on 1993 Club Car DS FE-290?
Not sure on these but alot of small japanese engines like to run 12-17psi at hot idle (normal operating temp with oil completely warmed up to temp).
As a rule of thumb, add at least 10psi minimum for every 1,000 rpm above idle. Hard to tell but it looks like the manual info Lockman posted says high idle should be 2700 rpm, that should be pedal to the floor full governed speed, expect 45 psi with the engine at full operating temp. |

Meh... fast idle to me would be around 1200 rpms, about the same when the S/G starts to generate.
But that’s just my thought... I didn’t design them. |

Mid 40's sounds about right. I had an oil pressure gauge on a cart I used to have years ago. I don't remember exactly but that sounds right. I think it was closer to 60 psi when the oil was cold.
