Exclamation Cart security

Morning,

I am in the process of rebuilding a 2000+ DS.
As per usual I have spent more than I budgeted on, I am after any suggestions other than the key switch, what security options are available to ensure my cart is not stolen...

thanks

There are plenty of ATV/Motorcycle alarms available out on the market, take your pick. You can use the starter kill to interrupt the key or pedal circuit between them and the solenoid, so even if they have a key they won't be able to start it without a key fob. Many of those also come with tilt sensors so if someone takes a bike off a kick stand it will set the alarm off. This would serve as a dual purpose, so if someone tried to take the wheels off it would also set the alarm. The addition of a proximity sensor could also offer content protection of anything under the roof, though prox sensors can be a little finicky.

thank you, hadn't considered an alarm. I live in a average part of town and would like to keep my new toy.

I think the best one Iíve read here was a magnetic switch under the cup holder. You needed to set your metal cup in the holder in order to start your cart. Another great one was rigging it so you had to push the cigarette lighter in to make contact so your cart would start.

There is also the "hidden in plain sight" method. Label a kill switch as foglights or whatever you'd like, where someone wouldn't think to flip the switch to need the ignition activated...

I honestly just flip the switch on the gear selector under the seat into maintenance mode, unless they are familiar with carts and put the switch back it’s only going to turn over in neutral and do nothing in gear.

Those are some very creative ideas. Putting my crabby old Rottweiler in the cart works. But she couldnít be there all the time - though if she had her way . . .

None of the above will stop someone from simply pushing the cart 'around the corner' and then loading it onto a trailer ; a big chain and good lock would be better insurance, but then, I have insurance to cover theft, its cheap

I have also started seeing more carts with a wheel boot on them lately.
As someone said it will slow them down, but if they are determined to get our cart, we just have to build another one.

I like the kill switch idea, open or hidden.

If I have to drag a logging chain around I'm in the wrong neighborhood.
