Steering tie rod adjustment after lift
Hello
I am struggling to extend the tie rod after the lift. The steering wheel is off by 90 degrees and driving me crazy. I can’t seem to separate the rod end from the steering rack. I’ve used heat and a breaker bar Any suggestions? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Re: Steering tie rod adjustment after lift
Clamp the sleeve with some vice grips, and loosen the jam nuts on both ends. They are threaded opposite so both turn the same way to loosen and tighten.
If the sleeve won't turn on the tie rod coming off the rack, you might still be able to get enough adjustment. But there is only about 1-1/2" of thread on the rod end and you need to have at least 3/8" of thread in the sleeve to have enough threads to hold properly. If you can't get that much, loosen the lower and middle bolts on the u-joint coupler on the end of the steering shaft and slide if off the rack, turn it one or two teeth and put it back on. It helps to mark the coupler and the spline shaft on the rack before you take it apart. |

Re: Steering tie rod adjustment after lift
If the measurements are correct and it drives straight, minus the steering wheel 90 degrees off, you could also try to just pop off the steering wheel itself and reclock it back to 12:00. Sometimes the steering wheels are on there pretty good though

Re: Steering tie rod adjustment after lift
The steering wheel being off indicates the steering gear is not centered. Best to work at getting both tie rod ends loose and adjust them the same on both sides.
