Dual Batteries

Hello,
was wondering if any one has dual bats. Will the generator handel charging both? any help appreciated

Why do you need an extra battery? I can't think of any logical reason for it... unless you where trying to power something that needed 24 volts... I've been testing a system to run some car (very powerful) headlights and taillights on my cart... this involves using a 12v car battery to power the lights. I charge the battery with a car battery charger I have, not connected to the rest of the car. I felt this was better, though my range (how long my lights will stay powered) is compromised.

Now enough about me, with your question... the generator could charge both, IF you switched manually between the two when one was charged fully. This is obvious. Though technically, I think the generator would charge both batteries equally if they where placed on the circut. It could handle it, yes, though it would take longer to charge. The problem can come in when placing two batteries on a circut together. Say one battery was more full then the other, then it would attempt to "charge" the other battery off it's own power. Ever read "don't mix old and new batteries" on those little AAs? You never really cared about it though, and you just shoved them in there. Well, the thing is when you're dealing with the AAs, you're only dealing with 1.5 volts. With 12 volt batteries like I assume you'd be using you could end up with a nasty short when there both fully charged. Shorts in car batteries normally make BOOMS. So you'd have to make some kind of system to prevent that. -- but this is just my idea. Don't take my word for it.

Thanks for your reply. first i like dual bats to run my lights (front, back up,neon glow) then I want to instal a stero system and a 12volt plug in. so I figured running two bats would be best. I figured on installing a switch to select which bat to run just like on my marine bats. I am not sure what your reffering to with the short and boom. This should run as a normal 12 volt system correct?

I see. I'm attempting to run extra lights too, so yes installing a switch would be the best idea. With the "short" thing, it's just I was reminding you that it's not a great idea to play around with car/12v batteries as they can explain if short circuited.

I was thinkin of goin to dual batterys for my stereo system & lights (2 amps 1200 watts & underglow leds) But I switched to a Optima yellow top gell cell. Works fine. (Althogh I think I fried my voltage reg this weekend) Nothin to do with the battery though.

Yes you can run dual batteries off of your generator, the biggest thing is to keep them in parrallel and NOT series.
For what you are wanting to do, I would reccommend a dual purpose marine deep cycle batteries, they are made for the short large draw of starting, and the longer slow discharge of your lights and radio.
