Default Will start but not run

Hey guys,

I have a 1990 club car ds gas, it was running fine then boom will start but not move sounds like it’s flooding out and not move, I cleaned the carb same issue I replaced the carb same issue, new coil same issue.. I’ve got spark I’ve got fuel but I’ve got no power. Any help? I’m at a total loss here :( the cables are all good as well!

Thanks in advance!

Nick

Sounds like you have fuel.
Do you definitely have spark? You’ve tested with a new plug stuck in the plug wire to verify the coil is producing spark?
Only other thing is compression. Could have sheared off the rivets that hold the plastic cam gear to the camshaft. You can remove the rocker cover and spin the motor and check to see if the valves move up and down as the motor spins. If they don’t, The camshaft isn’t turning.

Do I just remove the cover from the motor to do this?

Oh wait, does your have the KF flat head motor?
If it does I’m thinking of the wrong motor and the above info doesn’t apply.

I made headway on mine after a simple valve lash adjustment at top dead center to 0.006". Helps in faster starting anyway.

The flat head motor he has is more like a lawnmower in how its layed out, piston and both valves are right next to it. The head just holds the spark plug and gives a cavity for combustion and transfer of gasses. I dont think there is a valve adjustment on that, unless they're plum worn out and need to be replaced.

I'd check compression. Its quick and free. And gives good direction. Have to remember it's a 30 year old motor...

Clean the carb really well and pay attention to the float/needle/seat. I put a q tip in a drill and buff the seat with a little bit of gasoline. Sometimes if the needle wont seat it helps. Check the needle closely as well. If its worn, it won't seat. Either condition here would cause excess fuel to flow into the carb and flood it out.

So you’ve replaced the carb and many of the ignition components. That eliminates most of the common possibilities.

What type of fuel pump? Diaphragm style “powered” by a vacuum hose? If so, remove the vacuum hose and check for signs of fuel in it. Sometimes the diaphragm can start leaking internally and send raw fuel down the vacuum hose and straight into the intake.

It’s a vacuum style pump, I’ll swap it and see. I cleaned the carb well and had the same issue so I replaced with another with the same issue so I do not think it’s the carb.

Far as compression how much am I looking for? My fear is it has finally given out :(
