Default Cart very slow up hill 2000 CCDS

Hey guys! I have a 2000 CCDS with a 290. Brand new primary clutch, new secondary clutch with the heavy duty spring. 22” tires and a 4”lift. Problem is I can go around 20-25mph on flat ground but up hill it will slow down to around 5mph and under with more weight on it. 4 people on it will not climb a small hill. The motors RPM’s will slow way down until it’s just barely moving. I feel like the motor has enough power to climb the hill if it would keep the RPM’s up???? What can I do to get this cart to climb the hills in my neighborhood ??? Was thinking of changing out the gears in the rear? Going to 8:1 or even 6:1 , what am I missing here?

It sounds like you have a clutch problem. Where did you get your clutches?

The secondary should be closing down and the primary opening up as you go up a hill.
If that's not happening on yours, your clutches are staying at the highest ratio, which gives you the least amount of power to climb hills.

Take a short ride up a hill with the seat off and look down at the clutches as you go up.
The primary should open and make the belt ride down lower in the clutch, the secondary should close and make the belt ride up higher. If that's not happening it's either because one of the clutches is jammed, or the spring in the secondary clutch is too weak compared to the spring in the primary.

Another possibility is the secondary clutch is clocked incorrectly and is being turned open by the belt. The secondary clutch has to be clocked according to the rotation of the engine, otherwise it will not work properly, and can cause damage to the clutch.

Third thing is, what brand and type of belt is on it? If the belt is the wrong size it will not allow the clutches to work properly.

Gears will only worsen your current situation. Lower gears = faster speed, and Less Torque to climb with. You need to fix the clutch issue first.

I am going to take it out without the seat to see what is happening. The clutches came from Golf Cart King. And the heavy duty clutch spring as well. Both belts came from Napa, but I bought the same size that came off??

All clutches are work as they should. Replaced the primary clutch spring with the heavy duty spring. Still no help.

How do you know if you have a clutch problem? Would it bog the motor down on a hill if the clutch was bad? I've been searching for an answer for this with not much luck

Mines seems to of slowed down going up hill since fitting brand new exhaust! Also still having issues with pressing the throttle and not firing up sometimes, replaced brushes and cleaned dynastart, also new spark plug. Solenoid is clicking as it should.
So could the dynastart be dodgy and or the solenoid?
