Starting problem , 2001 DS gas .
I have to mash the go peddle to get it to crank . If it cranks , it starts good and runs good . Battery is good , 12.7 sitting and 13.7 running . TIA . Kevin .

assuming the starter does not start turning when you touch the pedal i would check linkages, cables, and switches, may need to be adjusted if you have to push the pedal that far down to get it starter to fire up to start engine.

I'm sorry, but I'm having a hard time trying to understand what is wrong. Could you clarify? It would be easier to help if we're not trying to guess and come up with our own interpretation of the concern.

Hey Kev, How ya' doin' buddy!
Don't mind them, they want to help, but they usually need a bit more detail in the description of the situation. I'll admit... your reply kinda set it off, so don't do that again! It seems that BearsFan read it just as I did... the starter won't turn the engine over unless the pedal is to the floor, it could be a number of things, but one thing comes to mind, it could be a failing microswitch in the ECB (black box). Maybe even a failing solenoid... but let's just deal with one thing at a time! CP241 posted a simple test in another thread that might get you started (no pun intended) in the right direction... You'll want to take the cover off of the black box to get a better idea of what's going on in there during testing! Quote:

Re: Starting problem , 2001 DS gas .
Or... hes just pressing the pedal to the floor because he thinks that's what he has to do. But actually what's happening is the "press the pedal but have to wait a few seconds for the motor to get over the compression stroke" that seems to be so common in club car FE powered carts.
I would suspect this is more likely the case, but without more detail it's impossible to tell. If it was a microswitch or solenoid failing, pedal position wouldn't matter. If it's out of adjustment, position would matter but there would be other symptoms as well. Theres other possibilities as well, but just like going to the doctor and saying "I feel like crap. Fix me" isnt going to work either. |

It very well could be the compression stroke thing... he replaced his belts a year ago, and maybe it's in need of readjusting!
Like I said... it could be a number of things, I just provided the suggestion of your simple test to rule a couple of things out. |
