Default Shifts hard into F and R

so I finally found a good deal on a CC cart! Late 90's (still need to verify year) gas. Stock for now (other than paint and seats). The only issue it seems to have is it's really hard to put into gear, both F and R. It doesn't grind or anything. Can't seem to see any kinks in the cable or anything. I just got it home last night so I haven't looked into it too deep. Thought I'd ask if there is something specific to look for first????

I'm excited to finally have a cart! I've got the list together for mods, including lift, wheels/tires, vinyl wrap, brush guards, bumpers. Then a big block conversion soon.

My 07 never really shifted "easy" either...
and, from what I've experienced from most of the gassers I've been on, it seems normal!

So... for the "heck" of it, I just ordered one of these!
(mostly because it looked "kewl"... but to help shift easier too!)

You might want to add this to the list of mods that you already have!!!
keep in mind that with a Big Block... and a late 90's cart, the shifting will be opposite!
(Forward is Reverse and, vice versa)

If the belt is incorrect or too tight you could have this problem.... spray lube on all of the moving parts of the shifter cable and linkage...... Congrats on the purchase

I like that shifter! First thing I thought about was a longer shifter lever for more leverage. I will get some lube into it this weekend to see if it helps some.

I've been doing some reading on the BB upgrade and I remember seeing something about rotation changes. I noticed a second sheave with a small width belt. I assume that drives a gen or alt or starter?? Would that be affected as well? I have lots of research to do before doing all this.

Coming from restoring hot rods, I know I have lots of updates in the near future. The wife even commented saying "How much MORE is ths going to cost?" :) Told her it will be a fraction of the cost of building a hot rod. ;)
