Default Predator motor install

Trying to find out the difficulties of installing a Predator engine in my cart . 1991 DS , KF 82 .The Predator shaft is 1" straight shaft - I'm guessing someone makes a clutch ( adapter ?) to make this work . Any input will be appreciated. Thanks .

There are straight shaft to tapered shaft adapters, however I would recommend against it. You have to cut a few inches off the crankshaft, drill it out and tap it which is a real hassle, and down the road when you go to replace the clutch you're stuck with a stock club car clutch.

Youd be much better off with either a cvtech or comet clutch from vegas carts. Theyll respond to the engine idling much better without engaging, and are a stronger overall clutch.

I've done it both ways. With all the time and hassle that goes into modifying it to make the stock clutch work, time is money and its money well spent for a better clutch.

No problem :) and no, someone finally came and took it earlier this week. Just got tired of tripping over it and glad to see it off the floor lol.

This is my ezgo, but I've got the cvtech clutch on it from VC. Works great. Much better than cutting, drilling, and tapping

chrome clutch ?! What is the price on that clutch? Sweet . I would have come up to S.Ga for it ; at least you got rid of it . I'm looking into that motor - I think the 8hp. model might b a little weak.

I think that clutch is 239 from vegas carts. They're in Jacksonville so shipping was like next day.

I had an ezgo marathon I threw together for my kids to play with over the summer, the 3pg was toast so I put a $99 predator 212cc in it. I was surprised how well it actually did. It would run around 12mph and had enough torque to propel.it quite nicely through our pasture, which was about shoulder high weeds and grass.

That said, the 420 is much stronger. I got the lifan motor in my ezgo now, from home depot. I picked that because it has an 18amp charging circuit, as opposed to a 2 or 3 amp in the predator. Once you start adding lights and stuff, it will drain the battery faster than you can charge it. With the more robust charging circuit on the lifan, I thought it would be better suited for a golf cart.

I agree with CP, the predator 420 will have lots of power over stock, just don't over rev it, keep it under 4500 rpm to be safe.

I use the comet 780, worked great on 460 clone, 16 Vanguard, and 23 Vanguard. I'm sure the CVTech is good too. Spend the extra dough on getting a good clutch, it will work much better for you.

Stock clutch isn't all bad. Club Car OE clutch DOES have a bearing on the shaft to make it easier to idle, if that's what you want. Maybe not the best performance wise, but the extra power of the 420 will more than make up for the inefficiency. The bonus is that you probably already have one off the old engine, right? I've done a couple for people "on the cheap": used the OE starter generator, retained the pedal start, modified the original exhaust
