So you are saying that the lever on the top of the transaxle moves when you shift the cable ..... the lever shifts but, the cart always goes forward no matter what position the lever is in?????

Check lever on trans, Probably cracked and is no longer turning the shaft.

The lever on top of the trans. The cable is hooked to it. They can split. Very simple fix.

Well when I got the cart up in the air where I could see the lever, it had just "slipped" off?? I slid it back on and reverse is working great.. Is there a bolt or retaining device that holds it in place??

I believe there is a clamp bolt. It should run through the side of the shift lever...
