Hitch w/Rear Seat Revisited
Hi guys. I just bought a Club Car (1998 DS Gas). I was hoping someone could help me solve one little issue. I did as much research as I could here in the forums, but I still have one nagging little question.
I need to have both a hitch and a rear seat on my cart. So far I've found two possibilities for heavy duty hitches: http://www.bigbuggies.com/ccrh.html http://www.stevescartshop.com/club-car-hitch.html Can anyone tell me if they've successfully used hitch extensions to get the ball out from under the rear foot step? I found this post that shows the use of an extension: http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/gas-c...dations-2.html I'm wondering if others have had luck doing the same. Thanks! |

Re: Hitch w/Rear Seat Revisited
Thanks,
Tongue weights will remain below 100 pounds. Total trailer weight (actually sailplanes) will max out at around 700 pounds. Most weight around 500 - 550 pounds. I got a response back from mjribeiro on his use of the hitch extension. Sounds like the heavy duty frame mounted hitch with an extension is just the ticket. That way I'm not limited as to what seat kit to install. |

Re: Hitch w/Rear Seat Revisited
In case anyone is interested. Tom @ CartPartsPlus is designing a new hitch for use with the light-weight aluminum rear seat kits that they sell. I spoke to him on the phone about my requirements and he's actually going to install a seat kit on a cart and have his fabricator design a new heavy-duty hitch to work with it. Now that's what I call "service"!!!
By the way, my driven clutch is on it's way to him for machining and spring. I'm also adding the rear seat, hitch, heavy rear springs and new belt to my cart. I'll also install an amber strobe beacon so I can tow sailplanes around the airport with it. |

Re: Hitch w/Rear Seat Revisited
another option if you don't need the rear seat and teh hitch at the same timeis a folding footrest. that way it can be folded up and not inteh way while towing. this also puts the weight back near the frame.
also depending on the trailer and cart you may be able to leave the footplate down and still tow. i know i do this a lot with mine. i lift it to connect the trailer and then put it back down. the footrest is nowhere close to hitting the trailer tongue. -Aaron |
