Backfire-2006 Precedent

I just bought an 06 club car precedent with the 11.5hp Kawasaki motor. When I go down the hill down to the dock the motor seems to backfire if I keep my foot a bit on the accelerator or even letting off the accelerator totally. The prior owner said this was normal for these carts. I can't imagine this is true! Your expertise on adjustments is appreciated. Pictures would also be VERY helpful.

No, it's not normal. the previous owner just put up with it. The throttle plate or butterfly in the carb is not closing completely when you have your foot off of the pedal.
When you remove your foot from the pedal a micro switch grounds the coil which kills the spark.
As you coast down the hill the motor is still turning by the belt and with the throttle plate still open even just a little it is pulling fuel into the cylinder.
When you push the pedal to go at the bottom you unground the coil and the plug starts to fire again and explodes all of the fuel that was drawn into the cylinder with no spark.
Sorry for the long post but just wanted to explain why.

Adjust the throttle plate so it is 100% closed with no pedal.

Thanks for the tip and warm welcome. So as I understand it, I actually have two issues. 1. The carb butterfly is not completely closing. 2. The microswitch to ground out the coil is not being tripped when I let off the gas. Are both issues solved with the same cable adjustment? If so does anyone have a diagram, pics, or able to explain in some detail where to look and what to wrench on.

Actually, the micro seems to be working properly.
Check the carb, the idle stop screw must not touch the throttle arm.
If it is back it out some and then make sure the cable is adjusted so it is not pulling on the throttle and holding it open.
