89 Precedent engine parts
I have a 89 Precedent w/ a FE290 engine. I have low compression [75 psi] and want to re-ring, and possibly rebore.I don't know if this engine has been bored out or not.Can anyone tell me what the facory bore is, and suggest the best place to buy engine parts? I've spent hours looking online at several part suppliers but I can't find everything I need at any one site.i.e. the gasket that goes between the jug and block..Any suggestions? Thanks in advance...........Mike

Re: 89 Precedent engine parts
Hey Mike,
I am in the process of getting my kf82 flathead rebuilt (older engine than yours) and I have found that LVS sales has all the parts, and seem much cheaper than others. Example, most places wanted 90-100 bucks for a connecting rod for my engine, LVS wanted $62. As for the piston size, I found out that my cylinder stock was 80mm, and we measured my worn out cylinder, tured out a .25 oversize kit did the job. I would just drop the new piston off with whoever is going to machine the cylinder and let them worry about it. Like I say, try LVS sales for your parts. I had the same problem trying to find an oil splasher and a rod in the same location, they had both... saves on shipping big time. Use the search function on the site, might help you out. It was only like 12 bucks for a 3 day shipping from Miami to NY. Good luck. Rob |

Re: 89 Precedent engine parts
CC made the Precedent in 2004 ( +/-) 1989 was a DS model.
Call any one of our site sponsors for a complete rebuild kit.... You will get everything you don't yet know you need to do the job.... And you will get a better price on the parts by buying the whole kit and a much better rebuild.... IMHO |

Re: 89 Precedent engine parts
Sorry my bad for mis-IDing the model..In a brief look at sponsors, the cost of buying a rebuild is equal to cost of sending it to Ga. for a rebuild..I'm hoping to avoid that kind of exspense...

Re: 89 Precedent engine parts
Thanks lots for the suggestions I dropped off the cylinder at the machine shop this afternoon..They are going to evaluate and decide if bore job is necc or just a honing..LVS sales was one of the sites I looked at and will give them a closer look..
