Default 97 Gas GS Poor Throttle Control

I have a 97 gas CC and I have very little throttle control - I have a hard time going slow- the cart is either off or going fairly fast - makes parallel parking interesting. I looked in the black box and the throttle cable has some slack around the cam the activates the micro switches. The throttle cable also looks old and some rust is visible near the adjustment nuts. Can anyone suggests ways to smooth up the acceleration, so that I can run slower by only slightly depressing the GO peddle?

I also need to depress the GO peddle about 1 inch or so to get the cart to start.

Thanks,
Jim

Cable lube may be as simple as WD40 directed in the ends. Do not adjust all the slack out of the cable as the first bit of movement is used just to activate the micro switches as I'm sure you saw Sometimes the throttle valve in the carb will vibrate loose on the CC gassers. When this happens the only sign is poor response. If nothing is done about it the screws can fall out and get sucked into the engine doing damage. I suggest somebody check the cart for this problem.....

Thanks Scottyb,

I adjusted the throttle cable until most of it was in the black box. This gave me very good low speed throttle control, but the cart does not go as fast now as before. I think that I will play around with the throttle cable adjustment at the black box so that I find the balance I am happy with, good control and decent top speed.

Best,
Jim
