Default 87 gas club car

OK....Let me try this again. Hope this is not the Introduction Forum as I am new. My 87 club car starts ok but it does not have much power. It smells like it is running rich but the plug is not black and I see no black smoke. The air filter is fine. When I push the throttle it only accelerates for the first half of the throttle travel. Thanks for any help. This is my first golf cart.

Hello amp077, lets first determine if the throttle peddle, cable. & linkage is working. With the air cleaner off and the seat removed.... the key removed.... push the gas peddle and look to see if in fact the throttle plate is opening ALL the way to WOT?

I think we gotta eliminate the obvious..... Do you have access to a compression guage? .....what is the compression ?
Are the tires stock?

The tires are stock. Is this cart supposed to start and run in neutral? I'll check the compression.

That is a problem....... very low compression.... Did you have the throttle wide open for the test and let it turn several revolutions?

If I push the throttle the cart will try to move. It will only turn over in forward or reverse.

Could a plugged exhaust cause this?

Jack the cart up and redo the test. Anything below 150 is unacceptable.
