Hip restraints
I just bought a 96 DS, (seller thought it was a 97). It is missing the hip restrints. He said that one was broken so he just removed them. He was a larger man, and I am guessing that he didn't want them on anyway.
My question is this. I have looked online and found the original style around $85. Seems a bit steep. I looked at other sets and am confused about how the original ones mount. Is it possible to use the later model ones on my older cart. How do they bolt up? Can anyone enlighten me? I am considering making my own out of steel, and then bolting a piece of wood on them that I would upholster for a restraint/armrest. What is everyone else doing? Thanks. |

Re: Hip restraints
96 would have had the 2nd of 3 styles CC had the 1 piece metal pipe style all thru the 80s and early 90s. It was a single unit that hooped around the whole seat bttm and came up for the restraints on each side. Then the low plastic came into use, 2 bolt on hip restraints ( list is $62 aftermarket) then 2004 new taller precedent style restraints list a bit more$.
Very curious to see what you make... please take pics of the process |

Re: Hip restraints
ok, that makes more sense now that I know the tube goes all the way under. Now I understand how the original ones are supposed to be. I'm thinking I will end up fabricating a set. It might be a while, but I will post pics when it is done.

Re: Hip restraints
Here is what I have so far. The were made out of 1/8" X 1" steel. The "pads" were cut out of some left-over marine plywood that I had from my pontoon boat remodel. There are t-nuts in the plywood that will allow the pads to be bolted on. The steel has since been powder-coated and I dropped the seat and armrests off at the upholsterer yesterday. I will post more pics when I get them back.
