Default Power spring- can't get the helix back on

It was hard to get the helix off, and impossible to get it back on. I cleaned up the shaft with a wire wheel. I've even tried to put it on without the spring or key, but it won't go on. I've tried my old helix and my new helix, and neither work. I tried putting the helix in front of a heater and the shaft in freezer. Still no go.

If ur talking about the rear clutch, I took mine apart and it was stuck. I sanded down wher it got stuck. I even used a file, but a fine file whith light pressure.

It is supposed to be a light press fit.

It's on. I used a light file (by hand, and on a drill). It eventually twisted on there very snug. I used a Rube Goldberg contraption to compress the spring. Sandwiched between two 2x6's, one with a notch to balance the pressure and give me room to insert the clip, then tightened a large C-clamp. The wood pieces were 3 feet long, so I had to space the other side with an object, so that the board was compressing evenly. I am sure there is a much better way to do that.

I'm pretty happy at this point, because I replaced the helix, slides and inserted the power spring. Ran good in maintenance mode, but I'll test it out tomorrow morning. Next projects are buttons on the drive clutch and installing new fuel lines ($15 kit).

Thanks for your help.
