Default How to remove steering wheel?

Probably a silly question, but do I need a steering wheel puller to remove it?

I tried removing the main nut and it's still pretty solid

I figured I'd check here first before I go Super Mario on it with a mallet

easy killer! you can use a hammer but you have to wack it in the right spot! you can use a puller. or try looseing the nut, then putting it on till it coverers the threads so it wont mushroom the ends of the nut or the shaft. use a punch to hit the shaft while pulling up on the steering wheel, or have a helper whack and you pull. i have luck with this way at work on forklifts.

Remove the washer from under the nut and screw the nut back on flush with the top of the shaft, make sure there is a gap between the bottom of the nut and hub.
You need to sit on the cart, schooch (that is a word in Va.)forward, put your feet on the dash and your knees under the wheel.
While really pushing up with your feet hit the nut/shaft squarely with a BFH!
If you can't hit it squarely use a block of brass or aluminum.
Might help to squirt it down with some penatrating oil (wd-40 is not).
Should pop off.

word of wisdom, If you're not handy with a hammer, or you have a helper swinging, lay a thick towel in your lap!

i have always just put feet on the lip of the dash, lifted up on the wheel with my knees and tapped on the backside with a rubber mallet and came right off!!after you get it o0ff the first time i recommend you puit a little grease on the shart where the threads are will make it a little easier to get off the wheel at a later time!

**note first time i did this i hit a little too hard, let just say it hurts like hell to get hit in the nose with a steering wheel**
