Default 92 Club car run problem

Ok obviosuly I am a newbie on here, so I will be as desciptive as possible in all areas.

92 club car, smoked ever since I got it, had to change plug yearly. It was used on a golf course as a "push" vehicle for other equipment. I have had it 3 yrs. It has always been cold nature, but once going it woudl run all day. if you loaded it too much other than with people it would smoke a bit more. Last year as the summer went on it got harder and harder to start and then finally just wouldnt.

Knowing this history I figured she was just wore out and ripped the engine out in order to rebuild, but then I though I better check a few things first. Spark "looks" good, seems to have fuel, the only other things to me is correct ration of a/f and the need of compression. With the engine out I did a rough leakdown (no gauge just pressurized the cylinder) to see if there was any obvious leak path. Nothing really stood out. Was kinda hard to do since they roll over so easy (tired to keep it at TDC to ensure valves were closed). This is where I stopped due to running out of time to work on it. I can do a true leakdown (with gauge) and get info and do a dynamic cranking compression test to get better info on this thread. Now onto my questions and need for help.

What dynamic cranking compression should I look for?
Are there known issues with this engine?
What else can you guide me too look for?
How hard is the rebuild? (I build car engines and cars themselves and have rebuilt a Briggs... for and ability point of reference...lol)

Engine is out of the cart as of now.

Thanks to all who are willing to spend a little time helping me out!!!

Welcome to the nut house High Roller!
You got it this far might as well go for the teardown. Sounds like it was used pretty hard at the previous place.
You might have ok to good compression but a stuck oil ring, valve seal hard/brittle and leaking oil that way. What you describe I would lean toward oil ring.
Mic the cylinder and determine if you need a bore or just a freshen up with piston and rings. Do the valves as well and don't look back for the next 20 years.

Teardown and clean the carb as well and the complete fuel system while your at it to start fresh, clean trash/water from tank and pick up tube, check for cracks/air leaks, new fuel lines and filter, new pulse hose from motor to pump.
All that and regular tune up parts and you shouldn't have any problems other than seasonal maintenance for a long time.

Default Re: 92 Club car run problem

Ok Im back for to provide more info and cultivate more responses...lmao!

So last nigth I finally got around to messing with this thing. I tried to conver my leakdown gauge to a compression gauge, but the needle only jumped to about 30 or so, but its not a gauge the retains the reading so I figured just pressurize the cylinder and listen for leaks. I put 100lbs to this thing and not a peep out of ANY direction. So I rolled it to open the intake valve a little. As expected air coming out of the carb. Here is one of the things I dont get. If I covered the carb intake with my hand, pressure started building in the crankcase and oil started bubbling up the fill tube. The only path I can think of that coudl do this is valve seals. So I did a few more tests like this withoutpushrods, etc and there was nothing leaking anywhere.

So I took the head off. Piston rock is minimal. Not sure how strong valve springs shoudl be but they are very easy to push the valve open. So I have no clue. Also, how much lift should I get at the pushrod? I can check that to see if anything is wrong with the cam. Another question I had is what is the reed valve for on the spring side of the head? Just to route cylider pressure up and back intot he carb?

I havnt mic'd the bore yet, but with everything looking like it shoudl not be bleeding cyl pressure off I put it back int he cart assuming somn else was wrong. Fuel flow or somn (even though I was sure it was getting fuel). And of course it was. I didnt hook everything back up just the pulse hose to see if the pump was working when I rolled it over. I notcied a couple things minor, but I am goingto try to re assemble this thing and see if I can get it to fire. I am lost.

Here is a few pics (that probly wont do anyone anygood) just incase you spot somn...
