Will a clockwise motor work with ccw tranny?
I have a 92 Club car that I bought and have put a bunch of money into it. The issue is the motor smokes like like a freight train but the compression is good. I don't want to stick $500 into rebuilding this motor and found an FE350 for sale for $300. The issue is, it is a clockwise rotation and my motor is CCW. I have read in the forums that a CCW motor will work with the clockwise drive units but the gears are reversed. Is this the same for my cart if I bought the clockwise motor?
Thanks Nate |

Ok, will it be harmfull to anything or just change my gear ratios? Also would my stock clutch work or would I need a new clockwise clutch? BTW thanks for the quick response!!!

Re: Will a clockwise motor work with ccw tranny?
I adjusted the valves to .005 but I have not taken the head off... I bought the service manual and was looking at that today. Taken it apart wont be a problem. Just concerned the actual valve replacement might be... They lost me when they said to lope the valves!!! I have no idea what that means so it my be above my skill level!!!

Re: Will a clockwise motor work with ccw tranny?
What that involves is getting the hand held tool (it looks like a stick with a suction cup on one end) and the surfacing compound,
After you get the valves and head clean, put some of the compound on the seating face of the valve, stick it in the head with the tool on the head of the valve and spin it like you are trying to start a fire ( spinning back and forth between your hands) You are basically trying to get the two surfaces, the seat and the valve, back to round so the seal better. You could have good compression and have a bad oil ring. Look into the cost of a standard piston set w/rings, misc gaskets and valve seals, might be a lot less trouble than the swap. |

I think I will try that. There shouldn't be tu much I can screw up. Do the valves go bad in these motors often or do you think I might just need a new valve seal???
