Transaxle vent?

I got my re-conditioned drive clutch back today. It cost more than I expected, but the performance is better than I expected too, so I'm good. While I was at it, I installed a set of new belts.

She hits 20 mph now at about 3800 RPM. I saw as much as 23 mph before backing off to avoid the limiter.

The sweet-spot seems to be about 16-18. Revs are still low, and that's about all the speed I really need. I might try to tune the governor to that zone. Turns out: the stock brakes that do fine from 11 mph don't lend much confidence at 23 mph...!

My mood took a dive when I got back from the trial run. Oil has seeped out from what I assume is a vent for the transaxle? It's an aluminum cap on a fitting at the top of the transaxle, just fwd of the shifter post. It looks like about a teaspoon of oil was expelled during my run. (the area had always been dry)

Does that suggest that the case is overfilled with oil? I'm sure my speed trials had something to do with it, but lots of carts go faster than this so I'm surprised I've never heard of this before. Is it something to worry about?

Pretty normal, Probably over full. Makes a good excuse to change it. I recommend going to synthetic. Stays thinner when cold and does not foam as easy from high speed.

If it keeps up after the oil change you can pull the vent, install a small hose barb and run a hose up to a higher location and then loop it at the top.
