Default Engine rebuilld vs replace

I have acquired an '86 gas club car without compression. Should I buy a rebuild kit and where is the best kit for the least cash? Or should I do a replacement engine and what are the advantages and disadvantages? Are there big block engines that will fit in the cart?

Thanks

Why not diagnose what you have before considering a new / rebuilt / clone motor ? Pull the head and see whats up. Who knows, it might be something straightforward and simple to rectify.

you can get a complete rebuild kit for approx 500.00 dollars.............kit includes new crankshaft, piston and rings all seals and bearings and gaskets, balance shaft......gives you everything you need and its not a hard rebuild, the last one i did was in february with like 10 inches of snow i rebuilt it sitting out in the snow put it in and fire right up she did.........................its not a bugdet busterr of a price and i think my total time was under 7 hours and thats engine out than rebuilt and back in and running..................................

Here my thought on the flat heads engine as I have one.
It seems to not have the torque like the ohv engines that come in the newer carts, but it does have some top end but i dont know if my gov has been messed with and I dont know the rpms its turning until I get a tach. I do know the carb isnt wide open though. My flatty starts right up everyday if I use it every day but when it sits it takes a bit to start but fires right up every time until it sits for a long time. It seems like a real reliable engine to me, just doesnt have balls... haha... If your gonna keep it stock, I say rebulid the flatty

I agree with shadowman on this one.although i have little to no exp. with the flat heads ,I rebuilt my ohv for under 500 $ and it runs GREAT!!! Do yourself a favor and go with a .50 over piston and rings and give Tom a call about milling the head and block! You will appreciate the xtra h.p. and torque!!!

I rebuilt one last summer and we took .050 off the head and the increased compression gave the little motor a lot more balls There are hidden costs in the clone engine swaps or any BB conversion...... stock rebuild is definitely the most economical thing you can do to revitalize the cart

Scott, could you really tell that much of a difference in the flatty with more compression?
