1996 Club Car Hesitates when Gas Pedal is Pressed
I have a 1996 club car with the tranquility engine, and when I press down the gas pedal, about every 3rd time nothing will happen at all, but if you leave the pedal down for about 2-3 seconds then it starts going with no problems at all. When I am watching the motor the starter belt moves slightly (1/2 inch) then stops, and then the starter finally kicks it over. When I talked to a mechanic at our golf course, he says its just because it is on the exhaust stroke and it take a bit to get fuel into the engine and get it starting, but it seems to be doing it more and more frequently now. I know when I changed the starter belt it was really tight, and hard to get on, could the belt maybe be too tight? Or the brushes in the starter starting to go? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!!

Re: 1996 Club Car Hesitates when Gas Pedal is Pressed
The ground cable seems to be good and tight. I have run out of ideas to check. The only thing I can think of is maybe the belt is too tight or the brushes are going in the starter. Any thoughts???

I replaced the battery at the end of last season, and the problem was there before, and it is still there after I changed the battery.

Re: 1996 Club Car Hesitates when Gas Pedal is Pressed
You said it was doing it before you changed the battery. Are you sure the battery is not undersized? It sure sounds like you are not getting enough amps through to the generator/starter or your voltage is low. Like Deadeye said, check your connections, make sure none are corroded or loose. Also, if you want to look deeper and more expensive, bad brushes or bearings going bad in the generator/starter could also act this way. First, look for a bad connection, you can also find the bad connection by looking for a hot connection after starting it several times in a short period of time. Be careful, it could be very very hot and you could burn your hand when you find the bad connection.
