Re: back firing
Are you getting flames out of the carb?(backfire=timing problems) or are you hearing loud pops from the exhaust? (rich fuel mixture)
If you get loud bangs out of the exhaust while lifting the accelerator, then you may have a rich mixture, that could be caused by partially closed choke, idle mixture too rich, float stuck open dumping gas into the intake, and a bunch of other possible problems. If you're running fine and the engine is making smooth power, then I doubt you have a timing problem. It may be time to tune up the cart. How old is your engine and when is the last time the carb was adjusted? Do you have any leaks? Sometimes a good cleaning, checking float level and tightening all fasteners will solve your problem and sometimes you might need some more help. You say that the cart runs "hot" this could definitely be from too much gas in the engine, it will continue to burn while the exhaust valve opens, and this will cause a loud popping/backfiring type of sound. If your exhaust pipe has a black sooty interior, you need to get your carb adjusted. If you have black smoke out of the exhaust at any time, then you need your carb adjusted/rebuilt. Let us know how it goes! |
