Rear Shackles?
Hi,
I'm about to add a rear seat and HD springs to my cart, and am afraid it will be just a little to low in the back to make it up the ramps into my truck. I'm thinking about just lifting the back 2 inches or so, which should clear everything, and then I might run a 20 or 22 inch tire in the back to make it look a little different. The questions I have are: has anyone tried lifting the rear with just shackles? Are there shackles available? Lockman1 posted a pic of the rear of his cart and mentioned a factory lift that had longer shackles, would these work? would I need new shocks, or just the shackles? Anyone know the part number for these longer rear shackles if they exist? Thanks All! |

Re: Rear Shackles?
I'm in the same process now. (in process because the fwd drivers-side leaf spring bolt just WILL NOT BUDGE)
But the pass side spring is in, and it resulted in a noticable lift. It's possible that the old springs had begun to sag ('01), and I don't have the foot rest on yet, but it looks it will be plenty high for even a steep ramp. |

PIB -
I had the same problem with the same bolt. ended up getting a 4" C-clamp, and putting the fixed end on the bolt tip, and the moving end on the spring mount right next to the bolt head, and clamping it... took a bit of PBblaster, and some misc other small bolts to help press it out, but it finally got free. other than that, the rest of the job was pretty easy... |

Re: Rear Shackles?
another trick that has been mentioned for those stubborn bolts; use a cut off wheel and cut the bolt between the spring and the inside of the holder right through teh bushing. yes it makes a stinky mess but it will get the job done.
you will gain some lift from just the hd springs alone. -Aaron |

Re: Rear Shackles?
i forgot to get a part number but the rear shackles i looked at for a xrt 850 are about 1.5 inches over a stock ds. that would give about 3/4 inch lift. maybe lockman has different ones? i also bet he has a springover on his cart.
whopping price $3.30 each. -Aaron |
