2002 CC Gasser Advice/Suggestions
OK folks....new to this site and golf cart ownership.
Just picked up a clean 2002 that I will be using to cruise around a weekend place. Mostly all flat paved roads.' I'm adding a back seat, stereo and lights/signals since I need to get it legal. It needs a bit more power, lifted and such. Always looking for tips and tricks and already read 14 pages of this site which has been a HUGE help! Post up your tips and suggestions on where I should start....suspension? Power? Thanks |

Thanks Papaw!
I read EVERYTHING so that will not be a problem. I/m thinking I need to also start with the lift too since that will change the geometry of the cart. If you see any good used parts you think a newbie may need be sure to let me know! Thanks for the response! |

Re: 2002 CC Gasser Advice/Suggestions
Welcome Fan!
I'm new to all of this too. I've learned a lot from these guys. I still have a lot to learn, but it didn't take me long to build an addiction to messing around with what was supposed to be cheap and easy island transportation. I have an '01 CC Gasser that I bought from a golf course a year ago. After reading threads about speed mods, the first thing I did was disable the governor. I was seriously disappointed to gain only 2 mph before the rev limiter kicked in. It turns out that 10 years on the golf course had taken a toll on my drive clutch (on the engine). The belt fell almost an inch short of reaching the top of the clutch. I removed it and sent it to a BGW site sponsor to have it rebuilt, which even a year later remains the biggest improvement I've made. I went from 12.5 mph governed to 14 mph non-governed, to over 20 mph with a healthy clutch. I have no lift with stock gears and tires. I plan to eventually re-activate the governor to ensure that no-one hits the limiter, but I'm undecided about a lift, new tires and high-speed gears. In the meantime I've learned to keep her in the safe zone by feel. So far my cart has seen: - Zip-tied governor - Refurbished drive clutch - Light kit: turn signals, LED brake lights - horn - dash - 12v receptacle - rearview mirror - oil and filter change with synthetic oil - seafoam fuel treatment - heavy-duty rear springs - back seat - seatbelts (front) The to-do list: - New wheels and tires - Change rear lube - Rebuild/replace driven clutch - Install the new ignition key switch - wire accessories to ignition The debating/wish-list: - lift - paint job - extended roof - radio - high speed gears - power spring in driven clutch - stainless trim - new steering wheel - brush guard Have you spoken to the shop guys on Meechen Rd? They know their stuff, but they're REAL quick to push high-speed gears, and I'm just not convinced. At 18-19 mph, I'm well below 4,000 rpm. That's fast enough to blow by the rental carts (which is just TOO MUCH fun), but not so fast that I have to worry about rolling it or getting beyond what those cheesy rear brakes can handle. I wouldn't mind a few more mph's with a few less rpm's, but I'm not sure it's worth the time and expense. My advice, fwiw, is to put your cart in maintenance mode and rev 'er up to check the health of your drive clutch. You may want to wait for the off season to get it rebuilt, but at least you'll know what you're dealing with. I would also strongly recommend a quality analog tach - asap. |

Re: 2002 CC Gasser Advice/Suggestions
So when I rev it up in maintenance mode to check the clutch health what am I looking or listening for to help me understand if it's a strong clutch?

You're looking for a smooth and consistant surface and enough contraction of the clutch to push the belt to the top, or at least very close to it.

Good - one less thing to worry about.
So what mods, aside from the street-legal requirements are on your list? |

Quote:
Clutch Spring Stereo Bumpers - Will likely just make some....I want something unique. Backseat - This is a priority! Paint - But that may be next winters project - I have a lot to do to the house too. Not sure what else I should or want to do....I want to keep the internals mild. I learned a long time ago that the more you do the less reliable it is....mechanical reliability is also a priority. You have quite the "to do" list as well.
