Default 96 Steering

My daughter hit a post while turning right in our Club Car. She hit the front of the car just in front of the wheel and I think also hit the wheel as well. Now it won't turn left, but turns right all the way. We have everything pulled apart and we don't see any damage. It looks like we just slipped a few teeth in the rack. Can anyone tell me how to re-center the rack so we will be able to turn both left and right? We were going to go with the trial and error method of just sliding it over a few and then testing it out, but decided that could take a few attempts to get right.

Thanks!!

my son slammed into a pinetree in ours when wide open (~24mph) and bent the mess out of the flat pc. that hooks onto the top of the spindle (a-arm I guess....) anyway, the trial and error method is what I did....Just make sure that it (the teeth) didn't OVER extend and hit that flat spot in the rack where there aren't any teeth. There is a c-clip or something that keeps the wheel from turning too far when you turn one way (left).

Best way I believe will be to pop the ball joints loose from the steering rack to get it back to the spot it needs to be. I'm just going from my hazy memory but I can look at mine in the AM and let you know more specifically.

HTH.

Thanks! I should have followed up. We went trial and error last night and have it. I goofed up and didn't get the steering wheel exactly straight (it is turned to the right an inch or so when going straight). I will have to pull it apart again and fix the steering wheel.

Thanks again!

If the steering has equal lock to lock movement why not just remove the steering wheel and centre it to the straight ahead position ? I wouldn't bugger around altering the rack to achieve this when I could just drive the cart in a straight line and flip the wheel to the correct position.
