impulse line?
I am finishing up putting this cart together and have gone completely by the service manual. I am stuck though on the fuel pump lines. The book tells exactly how long they are and where they go. But I am confused about what it shows as an impulse line running out the bottom of the fuel pump and I cannot figure out where it would go. The page listing the fuel lines does not list this last fitting on my fuel pump or any line going to it. But it sure shows a line in the pics. I imagine it went into the side of the case but on further review, the diagrams I have show that small cover on the case with a fitting coming out of it being capped off. Then where does this impulse line go?

Re: impulse line?
On my 93 carryall the bottom line on the fuel pump runs to the crankcase next to where the oil dipstick goes in.

Re: impulse line?
Mort the impulse line needs crankcase impulses so if that is the
nipple to hook to go for it. line 37? |

Re: impulse line?
Ahh, the tappet cover. Must not have seen that because of the carb being just above it. 23 must be that line and 37 the capped one. Thanks for the pic.

Re: impulse line?
Oh yeah, sorry. This is the old kf82 engine. '86 DS.
I went out and am confused again. That tappet cover line looks to go directly into the air cleaner. About a 6 inch line. The book says that is the crank ventilation hose. 23 In the diagram. 37 is listed as a sleeve cap. 12 is listed as a pump cover. Why it shows it capped off is beyond me. But no pics of an impulse line going anywhere on the engine. Funny thing is it shows 2 tanks in my book with the fuel pump and that impuls line. And a cap on the pump cover. Explain that. |

Re: impulse line?
Ok, finally got a chance to get back to this thing.
Ran that impulse line from the tappet cover first and capped off the outlet on the crankcase. Nothing. No gas whatsoever. Plus then I have a hole in the air cleaner where seems a line should fit perfectly. So I tried the impulse from the fuel pump to the case and a short line fron the tappet cover into the hole in the air cleaner. This is what It seems to be like in the book (pictures) that I could barely see. No blown up diagrams. The filter filled up really quick and soon I had gas coming out the overflow and either the hose connection to the imput on the carb or where that connection actually is pressed into the carb itself. Hmm, way too much. Stopped immediately after seeing that. Then I took the impulse line off completely. Nothing coming off the 3rd connection on the fuel pump. And capped the case again. It would fire a few times as I started to let off the throttle. I tried using that tappet cover line as my impulse to the fuel pump again. This time pinky over the small hole in the air cleaner and thumb over the end of the aircleaner where the expansion box is to choke it, it was running at about 1/4 throttle and would die at full until I let off again. And also dying as I completely released my thumb choke. So I plugged that hole in the front of the air cleaner and tried again. Thumbing it for choke, Nothing. I am guessing it ran on what fuel was in the carb from the first go around when it started leaking. So no fuel if the impulse line comes from the tappet cover on the side of the cylinder. And a small hole left in the air cleaner. Case plugged. What seems to be way too much fuel if I run the impulse off the case and the short line from the tappet cover into the air cleaner. I can tell that hole in the air cleaner needs something there because choking it makes no difference with an open hole there. On the other carts you can hear when it is turning over while the choke is pushed. Great spark and I have put a new needle and seat in the carb before putting this back together. Checked the float in a can of gas and also checked the level of it before hand. Confused and really annoyed. Please help. |

Re: impulse line?
It's #37 and it does not hookup to the tappet cover. It's lower on the engine and is not hidden at all.

Re: impulse line?
That is what I thought originally. So any advise on why I am getting so much fuel to the carb. Seems to be getting way too much and do not want to fill the crank with gas. I have tried it again that way since and the plug is soaked. And carb starting to leak again.

Re: impulse line?
Sounds like the float might be sticking in the carb, have you taken it apart to see if any trash is in it? Should not over flow if the carb is working correctly. I just went though this with my 93 carryall.
