Default club car DS-battery is not charging?

I'm having trouble with the charging system on my DS. The battery does not charge. The battery is good so I'm thinking its the generator/starter. When I put a volt meter on it I'm only getting about .4 volts at idle and about 1.5 volts at a higher RPM. I checked the brushes on the generator and they look good. What else could be the issue?

I can get the generator rebuilt locally for $110 but I would like to rule out other causes or simple repairs first.

Thanks,
Tom

Sorry I can't state facts but check the stickys or a manual on proper testing procedure. You might need to disconnect the output wire to the regulator to get an accurate reading incase the reg has a short or other issues. It should be reading 13.5v to 15v area.
Someone will know and chime in.

Yes so I suspect the regulator and it doesn't hurt to buy one because I replace them if I replace the generator anyway...what do you think, Crash?

Thanks for the replies.

I disconnected the yellow wire leading to the voltage regulator and the reading does not change....I show less than 2 volts output from the generator. The brushes look good, are there any other componants on the generator that could be bad?

It is the VR. I was looking for loose connections or a broken wire but I didn't see anything. I rechecked the voltage and I was getting 13 volts at idle and 15 volts at higher RPM's. I must have a bad wire leading in the VR and when I wiggled the wire it made a connection. Its working for now but I'm sure I will need to replace the regulator.

Thanks,
Tom
