Default drive belt help

I have a 2000 carryall 272 and a 98 ds. I kow that both of these carts have the newer transaxle in them. The carryall has the 350 in it. Would both of these carts take the same drivebelt? Any of you guys out there with books possibly have a number(s) for me?

The reason I ask is because I may be swapping a 350 into my ds. Currently the 2 carts have different belts on them. From what I can tell they should be the same?

Thanks,
Aaron

Check with Tom @ CPP about his new SD belts!

I'm planning on getting one!

And No... I'm sitting in Houston waiting for my flight out, so I don't have my manuals readily available!

The 272 has a longer belt for whatever reason. It's vehicle specific, not engine specific. Stick with the 1016203 or a 1017188 with your 350 swap.

thanks tdawg. what is the diff in the 2 belts that you listed numbers for?

maybe it is because the 272 has the different transaxle in it?

thanks

The two belts I listed above are the Standard smooth DS belt (1016203) and the ribbed Carryall belt (101718 I'll explain them all to ya right fast.....

The 1016203 is slightly longer than the 1017188 and will provide a little more top end speed. The 1017188 is shorter, therefore more engine RPM = less transmission RPM which means more torque... It's kinda like running a lower gear ratio. It doesn't make much difference, but every little bit helps. It's all personal preference really and is all based on the conditions you use the vehicle in. The Carryall 272 belt (Sorry can't remember part number) is longer than the other two by just a hair, this in turn, gives a little more speed than the others because it rides further up the clutch and turns the transmission a little bit faster. This is probably like you mentioned above... due to the different transaxle equipped with lower gearing... In my personal opinion, I'd go with the 1016203 on your DS 350 swap... I don't see the need for a little extra torque from the 1017188 since you're putting a 350 in a DS cart.... You'll have more than enough torque no matter what belt you use.
