What would be the better carryall to get?
I am looking to upgrade from my electric 1986 club car to a gas carryall. I have found three in my area that someone has bought from auction. They have an 08 with the smaller utility bed for 3500 and 1100 hours, an o4 for 2500 with about 3300 hours and a 01 for 2300 with 2300 hours. Both of the older carts have the larger utility bed.
I am not sure it is worth an extra 1000 to get the newer cart with the smaller bed. It is hard to make a decision when you don't really know the value of a used cart. What is the life expectancey of the motor? How many hours before they need major repairs or costly repairs. Any help would be appreciated. Linda |

Just my 2 cents but i would look for a 96 or older so when need be you can do a much cheaper and or bigger engine swap.

What is the cost of replacing the engine? How many hours does the engine usually last under normal care?
Thanks, Linda |

Re: What would be the better carryall to get?
Hi Linda,
If you are looking to customize a cart..as it has been mentioned, like adding a bigger motor and all that.. then you might consider the availability of after market parts as a factor. It seems though, that you just wondered if it was worth the extra money.. This is my opinion, but if you just want a good durable cart, and you can afford to spend the extra cash, and you don't really want to work on a cart, I would buy the newest and with the lowest hours I could, and consider it a treat. You might want to ask a golf cart shop owner to look them over, I haven't really heard anything any worse about one , so to speak than the other..people have preferences, but when my friend bought his first cart, he acquired it the same way you did, and it was a Carry all, when I like EZ GO..and I told him the same thing I told you. I LIKE working on mine, and doing things to it. He likes to ride his, and it has been trouble free, as in always runs. Unless you are going to trick yours out, go for the good one, get it serviced regularly, and you will be happy. |

I don't think the OP is looking to do a swap on the '86. I think the OP wants input on the three Carryalls she mentioned.

I think that she is talking about actually getting a whole new cart. Also, might want to think along these lines, as I own a 98 and an 01 of the same model EZ GO, from year to year they improve on some parts that really do extend the usability and such, and I much prefer a unit that the joints and rubber parts are as new as possible.. Without looking at the units, the one with the lower hours is bound to be less maintenance overall for at least the first two years. An engine replacement in a golf cart, having someone else do it, can be expensive to cheap depending on who does it, and you know how that goes. Good luck. |

She is and I said too much. Just spend the extra and you will be happier in the long run, that is not a bad price for a Carry all the 08, and if you're paranoid, get a cart mechanic to look at it first. A decent Carryall engine replacement is going to run 1000 installed, more than likely unless you know someone. |

Re: What would be the better carryall to get?
Yes I am only wanting to get the carryall and use it around our property. I live on five acres with horses and tend to use one alot maintaining the property.
I do not want to put more money into my beater it is beat at this point. In fact as of this evening refusing to even budge. Is the engine the same in the carryall 1 and 2? The o8 I believe is the carryall 1 since it has the smaller bed than the 04 and the 01. I appreciate everyones input. One reason I was not looking at the other types of utility brands was the issue of rust in Florida. Maybe I am wrong but are they not the only one with the all aluminum frame. Is it hard to add a canopy? Linda |
