Default Runaway golf cart!

OMG I had the cart out today and decided to remove my boat cover to let the inside air out a bit, it was getting quite windy so I bunched up my boat cover in a big ball and shoved it into the footwell of the cart, next thing I know I hear my little nephew screaming "Uncle Eddie! uncle Eddie!" Long story short everything is ok and nobody was hurt, the boat cover had the gas pedal to the floor and the josh turned key on! I leaped out of my boat using the outboard motor as a launch point and was just able to snag that cover and rip it out of the cart just as he was going by, shewww that was close I about crapt my drawers, josh is only 4yrs old. Totally my fault for leaving the key but now i'm having second thoughts about the "Safety" features of this cart.

I'm glad you were both quick and decisive and lucky It can happen that easy... I have an old dog who like to ride on the floor of the cart and bark He has no idea the gas peddle is there... When I stop to shut the gate I turn the key off in case he sits on the peddle. There can never be too many safety features in place.

How much more safety could it have? You had the key in the ignition,a pile of stuff on the pedal, and a curious 4yr.old playing with the key.Keep the key out when kids are near-by.My sons are 3,they have been around the cart since day 1.They know not to ever touch the switch without asking, and they do drive it if someone works the pedals. When i'm not using the cart for more than a few minutes, the key comes out if they are around, just in case.A little schooling for them goes a long way.At least no one was hurt,so be glad for that.

Neutral safety switch? it only starts in gear that seems bass akwards to me? I have a bad habbit of leaving key in it, my kids are all grown, I just wans't thinking about that stupid boat cover on the pedal, my sis's kid's arent around that often, it was just one of those unforseen things that happen. Someone could have died over it today and thats the last time this cart will ever start and take off in gear.

I just finished rehabin' an old cushman and it had an irritating safety feature you might like. you had to be sitting in the seat for it to go..... like a riding lawn mower these days... That wouldn't be too awful hard to rig up so you needed 100 pounds in the seat to flip the switch?

First off glad all is well, That was close. The neutral switch is not a safety feature. These are GOLF CARTS they were designed for ADULTS to play golf. It was designed so a half drunk guy could not start the cart in neutral and slam it in gear. If you have made the choice to use one of these around the yard for chores, And theres children around you should consider some safety additions. I understand how it happened. I had the neighbors dog drive one of our electric carts right through the fence. 3 weeks later when I drove the same cart over to the neighbors to talk to him We walked in the garage to look at something and SPLASH, the same dog drove the same cart into the canal. It wasn't EZGOs fault or the dogs fault he just likes to ride carts. I'm the DA that not only left the key in the cart but left it turned on. Not anymore!!!! We take the key out of everything. The very first thing ANY kid does when he sits on a golf cart is grab the steering wheel and push the pedals. The ONLY safety feature a golf cart has is a top speed of about 12 mph.........Oh wait most of us have bypassed that feature too.

Truth is you have to have the key on and have it in gear... I turn the key off just to close the gate behind me with 5 dogs jumping in and out of the cart like it was a dang jungle jim Safety is a hard learned lesson at times. I'll never forget the cart that unceremoniously ran me over from ear to toe while peeling out the whole time.... Lucky the workbench caught it...........
