I thought about putting weight on the back to get the shocks to fit, but my concerns was then unloaded, the shocks would be under force pulling them apart... Is this ok and not something I should worry about??

No... not a good idea...

You can "extend" the shocks by using an "all thread" adapter,
take a shock off, and go to a NAPA, or local auto store,
there is a female to male adapter to get that extra length you need!

o.k.... that didn't sound right...

ok - so I found the adjustment nuts where the cables meet and connect to the pedal assembly - thought I made some progress in getting the pedal to move, however, the rear end was jacked up at the time..... as soon as I set her down, brakes locked and pedal wont move, not even with the adjustment nuts loose.... so, possibly the cables are getting pinched or something with the new leaf springs???? had to give up for today but will get back at 'er another time.... as far as the shocks - I think I'm either going to put a heavy load on and try to flatten the leaf springs enough to get the shocks to fit or buy shock extensions to raise up the threaded end so that it will make it through the mounting holes - any suggestions on which direction I should go with that?? THanks

Go with the shock extensions! (All Thread adapter)
Don't force the leaf springs and shocks, the springs will win!

That's kinda what I was thinking... an upward force on the shocks cannot be good.... which is what would happen as soon as I took the load off......

brake issue solved - I didn't have the correct size u-bolts so I was dropping the cart on the leaf springs and since they weren't secured, the plate under the leaf spring was flexing and pulling on the brake cables... installed new longer u-bolts and everything is working fine now..... still need to get some shock extenders and then the suspension upgrade will be complete. Thanks for all of your great advice!
