Driven clutch spring upgrade??
I am kind of new to this upgrade stuff so I have a couple questions. Will putting in the power spring keep you from reaching full speed? First I put a spring from buggies in about five year ago and this thing looks like a coil over off a buick. Just wondering if the one from cpp is the same it looks smaller. The one I have has only about four coils and the diameter of the steel is .225.

Re: Driven clutch spring upgrade??
call cpp and ask ,a bunch of good guys.
my guess is it will not cause it to reach max , nor will it prevent it from it. To reach max U need to have the clutch machined (I think) ? |

Re: Driven clutch spring upgrade??
once I pull my clutch, using your tools, I am going to send it in to get machined and have any and all upgrades done to it. I want more low end tork as I use the cart every halloween to pull a bunch of kids around in a hay wagon. Any way I will let you know how the upgrades work. Thanks again for everything

Re: Driven clutch spring upgrade??
I replaced the driven clutch spring in my 2004 cc precedent. It did cut some of the cart's top speed, but it did give the cart some more get up and go off of the line, i have found that it helps when you have a lift kit and bigger tires.

Re: Driven clutch spring upgrade??
Ok, I worked on my drive clutch, put in new weights and thrust washer and put on a new belt. I took it for a couple runs up the street and still only get about 16 mph. In maintence mode the belt still stays about 3/4" from top of shieves. After my couple of runs I took the belt off and there was rubber on the drive clutch faces and the edges of the belt look worn already. It seems like the drive clutch is trying to close but the driven is not opening fully. I put a clutch spring from buggies about 5 years ago and this thing is really stiff. I am wondering if this is causing the driven to not open fully. what do you think?

Re: Driven clutch spring upgrade??
First thing, i am not reproaching but it would help if every one stated what clutch
we are talking about it would help. The rubber on the drive sheaves means you are short on side pressure on the belt. It could be too stiff drive spring, sticking drive clutch, too long of a belt. |

Re: Driven clutch spring upgrade??
It is a stock cc clutch (93). I did put in the 200 rpm spring from cpp and the belt is new from cpp so it should be the right length.

Re: Driven clutch spring upgrade??
I am new to cart upgrades. These are things I just did. I have a 2002 CC DS
with the 290 engine. I wanted more torque also without losing to much top end. It was running about 20 to 21 on GPS. My drive clutch was worn and the belt would not come to the top. CPP(Tom) suggested the drive clutch for a 350 motor,a little stronger. They machined my driven clutch and installed the torque spring. They also suggested the severe duty belt. I just got the cart back together. The torque is much improved and I got a chance to run it on the street today and top end was 23. Love the changes. I hope this helps you. |
