Default Clutch engagement?

Recently bought a '92 Club Car (gas)...Well it will run like a champ 90% of the time but will occasionally chug to a stop then the engine wil run but will not engage... i/e run but not go anywhere... So is this a bad clutch? Bad gas? any ideas would be great!

or clutch spring could be hanging

Next time it happens see of clutch is spinning at normal speed ?
If yes then I am guessing it is not closing on the belt ?

The clutch is spinning at normal speed... it will sit there and spin, and then just suddenly take off... doesn't seem to be anything in particular that causes it to engage... Seems that that belt is quite loose but obviously I'm a complete novice when it comes to carts...

Time to take it apart and check and lube it.

I'm not so sure on the carts but on snowmobiles, when the center bushing get worn they will sometimes hang up and then slam in. to check for this just grab the outside half of the clutch and try to tip it in towrds the motor if it rocks the bushing is bad. Hope this helps.
