Solenoid ??? issues
1988 Gas Club Car. Lost the solenoid When I tried to start it after winter storage. Installed new solenoid and it ran great for a few minutes until I shut it off. Now solenoid buzzes. Checked voltage on solenoid and it appears to be OK. The problem is elsewhere. Battery is fully charged. I am not very mechanical so I need help on what to check next. I'm new here so thank you all in advance.

Re: Solenoid ??? issues
My bet is your starter brushes are carboned up and worn out, try nudging the starter by hand then try starting it again, I'll get flamed for telling you to do that just don't be stupid, it's just a 3 sec no tools involved internet attemp at getting you going again, if it works then your definately needing a starter re-hab, grounding cable is also a biggie. you can get enough juice so make a solenoid switch but not carry any load, so chech the big cable ground at the battery and starter connections.

Re: Solenoid ??? issues
Thanks, I tried to rotate the starter, no change. I am going to clean up athe battery ground tomorrow. In its location it looks like it could be in poor shape. Thanks again.

Re: Solenoid ??? issues
A quick test to determine if it is a high amp circuit problem (Battery, cables, solenoid or starter)
Or a low amp circuit issue (activates the solenoid by 12v power) Remove both small wires from the starter solenoid and use two jumper wires from the pos and neg battery posts to the the two small solenoid posts. Doesn't matter which goes where because the solenoid is not internally grounded. If it spins with this test you have a low amp circuit issue, (fuse, pedal switch, F/R micro, dirty connection, etc.) If it doesn't spin with this test you have a bad battery, loose or bad cables (check both pos and neg cables), bad solenoid or faulty starter/generator. Also in this instance, new doesn't always mean good! |
