Default '94 CC wont start

My neighbors 94 Club Car will run sometimes and then others will not. Everything looks good as far as the air filter and fuel filters. It will turn over fine and fire one time and then go back to just turning over. Then after a while it will take off and run. Do you have any ideas?? I will check the spark next for them.

It could be many things. Too many.
Spark?
Fuel?
Carb Clean and adjusted properly?
Coil grounded out?
RPM limiter shorted out?
Compression (stuck vavle)

Just start with the basics.

Pull the sparkplug and check for spark. No spark? Could be a micro switch, coil, rpm limiter, ignitor or a wire grounding out the coil.

Pull the fuel line off the carb and put into a clear jar or container, does it pump gas when it is turning over?

Is the air box sealed tight and right? These carts are air sensitive.

Like I said, too many things to list. Find out what it is not doing and we can go from there.

I did have a step by step guide at another site but I see its been removed. No wonder its a ghost town..... LOL Anyway, I will work on another guide that maybe it could be posted here in a sticky. Its a great reference tool.

OK I went over tonight and looked at the cart. It would not start to begin with so I put my spark tester on the plug. It would spark one time and then not spark at all. I put it in reverse and it sparked and fired up. I then proceeded to ride around the yard for about 15 minutes with no problems. The only problem I could see was the aluminum foil heat shield had come loose under the seat and could have been touching the plug wire. Could this cause a problem in grounding out or no??? What else could it be??

Thanks Mac

This symptom most always turns out to be the ignitor going bad that is mounted on a plate behind the rev limiter.
One thing to try before you buy one is check all of the wire connections around the rev limiter area and try it, then disconnect the rev limiter ground wire from the motor, tape it up and try it.

Where is the rev limiter and ignitor, I am a Yamaha owner so the Club Cars are Greek to me.

Lower front of the engine, rev limiter is a black box @ 2" X 2" and the ignitor is behind it, little smaller.
