Default 92' CC Lost Fire

Ok here is what happened!!

Customer wanted to adjust the govenor so we did but we were trying to set the rpm's and when hemashed the gas it stuck wide open with no rev limiter.

Yes I am talking about sewing machine sounds, ewwwww

So he snatched the spark plug wire off at what sounded like 7500 rpm's LOL

and we put the govenor back where it was and tried to crank it again and now we have no spark. My question is could the high rpm's have burnt something up? Compression is 170lbs.

Took the flywheel cover off and checked the coil and no resistance between the terminal and wire? Rusty real bad so we cleaned flywheel and coil up and re-installed and still no spark.

Hate to start buying electrical parts, would really like to diagnose the problem.

Is there any tests for this spark issue?

thanks,

I would make sure you didn't pull the plug wire out of the boot or coil.
Or cut it somewhere when you pulled it and it is shorting to ground under the shroud.
RPM's and rust should have no bearing on the ignition failure.

No fire to the plug just using wire only.

Thanks Crash I have pulled the coil from motor and I will double check that.

Whatever happened I think was gonna happen in time? The RPM's just helped it.

At least the motor held together for those breath taking 15 seconds, LOL

if thats the coil with the built in ignitor thats where i would start......i know it sucks having to replace it to find out but theres no real way to test them........but those coils to me are a weak link so much so that i used to keep at least 6 of them, at all times...........thing to do if you can is get an extra coil rpm limitor and ignitor to use for testing only........than when your not sure at least you don,t have to guess.....i hate that......also double check plug wire and boot and keep one of each for same thing................

Shadowman,

I bought new coil this morning and that was not the problem. And now the old coil is ohlming out like it should after it set all night? Maybe it cooled off after that dyno run? LOL

I am leaning towards the ignitor? And yes that is a great idea to have on hand an extra ignition system, however the 92-96 were the same and then you have the newer ones that are different as well.

rich i,m sorry for some reason i thought it a 96 with coil/ignitor combo......on a 92 i go right for the throat.............ignitor and rpm limitor cause you can never tell when its the limitor they go bad in a zillion different ways.........have never had one come back by doing both......if money is the issue i know the 20 dollar weed wacker ignitors will work..........................

Borrowed an ignitor from a friend and it works, so I guess it was the ignitor at high rpm's just went?

thanks for your time Tom
