Default Clutch puller bolt

This is confusing me; I just read the "button thread" and the chat about left / right handed threads for various model year applications (pre 96 vs post 96). All the pullers I see for sale on various forums suggest that the pullers for sale will work on pretty much all carts from 1988 thru 2005. I'm reluctant to dump $45 into a tool that will be worthless to me so could someone please give a definitive answer to this conundrum ?
While I'm on the subject, I have a broken puller here, the small top thread has broken. Could I simply grind off the busted remaining thread and use a regular bolt to drive onto the hardened steel section ?
Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Chris.

the right and left hand threads is only for the long bolt that holds the drive clutch to the crank shaft (engine) pre 96 counter clock wise engine right hand and post 96 clock wise enging left hand threads, all the clutch have standard right hand thread for the puller

Well that clears that up nicely and makes perfect sense. I wonder why the driven clutch bolt is R/H threaded though Ah well, Thanks for the information imjman, youdaman

the driven clutch has a key on a straight shaft, and the drive clutch is mounted on a tapered shaft with no key.

there is a woodruff key on driven clutch and if you ever get a cart the bolt has come out on make sure the key is still there....its a 2 inch long bugger......i,ll never forget the 1st time this happened i could not figure why cart would start and run and rev up but wouldn,t move........it took me all day to realize the bolt came out and the key behind it.......never again...........yeah chris the only puller i have ever used on C.C. is right handed and that broken one you have well we talked about that.............lol..........if you don,t hear from me this weekend give me a call i,ll be at camp..............................
